November Presidency Message

Most of us just enjoyed a bountiful Thanksgiving feast, and we numbered the many blessings that we have received from a loving Heavenly Father! This month, as we celebrate the birth of the Savior, we have the opportunity to partake of a SPIRITUAL FEAST, by increasing our effort to draw nearer to Him. As we contemplate His miraculous birth, His perfect life, and the reality of His atoning sacrifice and glorious resurrection, let us strive to center our lives in Him - through fasting and prayer, studying and pondering

His teachings, and through following His supreme example of unselfish service. It is our hope that amid the hustle and bustle of the season, that each of you will find a quiet moment to feel His love for you, and

to express your love to Him. May our hearts be filled with gratitude and joy as we celebrate His life this Christmas season! “O come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord!”

Merry Christmas!

October Presidency Message

Hello Sisters! We want to tell you how much we love you, appreciate you, and enjoy you! We hope that you realize how wonderful and special you are - both as a group and individually. True self esteem comes from being aware of who we really are. Too often, we allow the world to define what we "should" be, until it becomes difficult to tell our real self from our "worldly self." Satan would have us accept this distorted image as the "real us." He would have us measure our worth in terms of what we look like, what we have and the things that we can do. He wants us to feel WORTHLESS - in effect, to forget who we really are! Our worth is NOT determined by what size dress we wear, if our clothing is in style, how clean our houses are, or how far we can run - THANK GOODNESS! Keeping in mind the following three things can help us be mindful of our divine nature and individual worth: (1) REMEMBER YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO GODRemembering who we are helps us to remember what things in life matter most. It helps us see the divine purpose in our lives, and it provides clarity and direction. The Relief Society Declaration begins, "We are beloved spirit daughters of God." We can strengthen this knowledge by making spiritual growth a priority. (2) DEVELOP CONFIDENCE IN THE LORD. Our self confidence is tied to our confidence in the Lord. We must have the Lord's help in our lives and must trust in the power of the atonement to lift us. Through the atonement, the Savior can perfect us. We cannot perfect ourselves. He loves us and he can make weak things strong. We need to know that if we TRY and put forth a sincere effort, He will make up the difference. We develop confidence in the Lord in the same way that we remember our relationship to God: by making spiritual growth a priority. (3) PRACTICE PATIENCE WITH YOURSELF. Stop the negative self talk! Our Father in Heaven has infinite love for us, despite our faults. When we remember this, it becomes easier to love ourselves, and in turn to love others more freely. Amulek counseled his people to, ". . .let your hearts be full, drawn out in prayer unto him continually for your welfare, and also for the welfare of those who are around you." Alma 34:27. Shift your thoughts from the negative, and direct them prayerfully toward Heavenly Father, asking for help and sharing your struggles, fears, and your joys and gratitude. Letting your heart be drawn out in prayer will help your thoughts become more meaningful and can bring great peace and enlightenment. You truly have come to this earth "trailing clouds of glory. . .From God, who is our home." Let us all remember who we REALLY are, and draw comfort and strength from that knowledge! Love always, 8th Ward Relief Society Presidency
